No extra equipment is needed. Each pen has a mouthpiece at one end and a felt-tip nib at the other; placing the nib against the paper and blowing through the mouthpiece sprays a fine mist of colour. The same pen can also be used as a regular marker for drawing lines and details.
The white pen contains a reactive ink that chemically alters the dyes in the other seven pens. Blowing or drawing the white pen over a sprayed colour causes it to shift to a visibly different shade - the reaction is immediate and permanent once dry. Each coloured pen changes to its own distinct secondary colour.
The ink washes off skin and most types of fabric with water, and the set is manufactured by SES Creative to meet European EN71 toy safety standards. As the pens contain small parts and require blowing technique, they are recommended for children aged 5 and over, with adult supervision advised for younger users in this age range.
