Discover how rotary motion can be transformed into other types of movement with the Engino Discovering STEM: Mechanics – Cams & Cranks kit! This fascinating set challenges young engineers aged nine and up to build and understand mechanisms using cams and cranks. Children can construct various engaging models, such as a model sewing machine, a flapping flying eagle, or an oil pumpjack, using the versatile Engino building system to see these principles in action.

The Engino Cams Cranks Kit provides a practical exploration of how different cam shapes create specific motions and how crankshafts convert rotational movement into linear or reciprocating movement. A detailed booklet includes clear building instructions for multiple models and explains the relevant mechanical theories and real-world applications. The Engino Discovering STEM: Mechanics – Cams & Cranks kit develops mechanical understanding, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking. Explore motion conversion with this hands-on Engino Cams Cranks Kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

The kit contains enough snap-fit components to build 8 fully working mechanical models one at a time, including a fishing crane, oil pumpjack, moving figure, moving bridge, sewing machine, and a flapping flying eagle. All 8 sets of step-by-step instructions are printed in the included booklet and are also available as free 3D interactive guides via the Engino kidCAD app.
No batteries are required. All models are powered manually by hand-turning the crank or cam mechanism, which is central to the learning experience - children observe directly how their own rotational input converts into different types of motion within each model.
The snap-fit components are part of the Engino building system, which is designed to be compatible across the Discovering STEM range. Components from other sets in the series - such as the Levers & Linkages or Pulleys & Gears kits - can be combined with this set to build larger, more complex mechanisms.
