The gyroscope uses one LR44 button-cell battery, which is included in the pack. The battery powers the internal LED lighting system that activates as soon as the gyroscope reaches spinning speed.
Once spinning at speed, the gyroscope can balance on the tip of the included conical stand, on a fingertip, on the end of a pen, or travel along a taut piece of string - all classic demonstrations of angular momentum and gyroscopic stability. A printed instruction booklet explaining the science behind each trick is included in the box.
